Double Fine Proves You Don’t Need Publishers To Create Games «

Now this is a unique story. Tim Schafer, the man behind games such as Day of the Tentacle, Psychonauts and Brutal Legend, and his team at Double Fine productions have set out to prove you don’t need publishers to develop games. Their goal was to create a new point-and-click adventure game for the PC and other platforms and their means of funding – you. Instead of seeking the backing of publishers, who frankly aren’t interested in games deemed as a risk, Double Fine decided to try something different by pitching their idea to gamers via Kickerstarter. The goal was a lofty $400,000 that would fund a small team lead by Schafer to create a brand new adventure game that would be released in October of 2012 as well as a documentary series covering the development of the game. Well, apparently going the Kickstarter route worked and in less than 24 hours they had met their $400,00 goal.
