Review Game: Batman: Arkham City

After the successful first chapter of “management Rocksteady”, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (with all due respect to those PCs, which will add these shortly) can finally get to play as the man-bat of the world’s most famous ( no, we are not talking Dracula) in the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham City.
We had left a Gotham City shocked by the disaster of Arkham Asylum, where Batman came from very battered, the events of that crazy night led Quincy Sharp, meanwhile become Mayor of Gotham with controversial methods, to revolutionize citizen safety by building a sort of obtained from the prison-city neighborhood where the old Gotham would be transferred all the criminals of Arkham and Blackgate, which would be closed indefinitely. The “fortress”, controlled by a non-conventional force TYGER prison called, soon became cause for discontent in the city, a feeling emphasized by the promotion of Supervisiore Hugo Strange.
In this sequel to the award-winning anticipatissimo Arkham Asylum we find, after about 18 months from the foul deeds of Asylum, a firm and decided that Bruce Wayne is pursuing a national political movement to close the new structure of “Arkham City.” Too bad that this idea of peaceful opposition will become, within a few minutes, the hardest battle which Batman must face Gotham to save all.

One city, many criminals
Even more of Arkham Asylum, many will be familiar faces to fans of Batman Arkham in this City, those best known as the Joker, Two-Face and The Penguin, with people only known to true fans of the comics as Black Mask, Hush and Solomon Grundy. Also returning to the stage and even old favorites like the Riddler Zsazs that, for the occasion, has greatly increased its puzzles (but will deepen the topic later).
Arkham City is vast and labyrinthine, certainly more than it was the Arkham asylum: it will take quite a while ‘time to adapt and take the first points of reference but, fortunately, in-game map is very detailed and is to the aid of the player, despite the presence of a minimap always present on the GUI overlay, especially in a free roaming like this, it would be a very welcome choice. However it is also true that the fees now want a screen as “clean” and free as possible, so we take note of the choice of Rocksteady and we get used to “live” the city as we would in everyday life.
The evolution, from the somewhat ‘linear Arkham Asylum to the immense and freely explorable map (this time without any constraint) of Arkham City, could be debated a little’ nose to the lovers of the first game, at least in the early hours of game. If in fact those who live on bread and free roaming can not but rejoice in scprire that this sequel has in effect setting a la GTA, it is also true that those who had purchased the first game of Rocksteady finds himself a bit ‘confused, and perhaps frightened by the “apparent solitude” which leaves us the game after the first few bars of tutoring. But if you want to buy this game on an informed basis, you can easily get used to this brave choice of the team.

“You have a missed call”
The graphics of Batman: Arkham City is always exceptional, like the first chapter, said outside the teeth, the graphics engine has not suffered from the upheavals that moved Arkham Asylum, but we must emphasize the meticulous finishing work and the masterly handling of ’lighting, which shape the city-prison surreal environment likely to neighborhood within a few leaps from rooftop to rooftop.
The gameplay is, as we did smell the prequel, very fluid and guessed: everything is good and (at times) has made great innovative Arkham Alysum there and takes large space, not forgetting, however, like new: right for you know, in the arsenal of Batman not only adding new gadgets, but also devastating new (and many never spectacular) combo, they are transitional or final. Needless to say, then, the combat system has not aged at all, like the entire approach to the game itself (investigations, platformer, etc..) Saw a pleasant refreshed – capacity, first of all, the new game setting.
Worthy of note is certainly the audio industry. The music, incredibly immersive, and the voice acting is among the best ever heard in a game about superheroes and, for all those fans who are brought up with the cartoon, you can feel (as well as the first chapter) the voices of their loved childhood!

Many, perhaps too many things to do
In addition of course to the main campaign, where the motto is to help first Batman to solve their short comings in Arkham City and then figure out what the hell is boiling over in the prison city, in the meantime to prevent Hugo Strange to implement the much-discussed and often mysterious Protocol 10 (do not ask what we mean: you will find out just buying the game), Arkham City has 12 sub-quests, each detached from the game’s storyline, which add to the “feast” and other special new characters, enriching the already extensive cast of this second chapter.
In addition to this under-the inevitable return, loved-hated Riddler riddles, which this time will come to a total of 440 (against 250 of the first chapter!), Along with the now historic challenges, which do not add to the narrative parts plot but have an “extra” to extend the longevity of the title. To be fair, the same longevity is “mined” from these challenges that yes, many hours lengthen the gaming experience, but as ends in themselves and not offering more variety than they gave in the first chapter (it is worse does not offer anything different from what you see in single player), even at risk of becoming boring to most. In fact, the medals of the challenges rising from 48 to 192, revealing the only weak point of Batman: Arkham City: a minor mode that eventually could become boring and frustrating. The fact remains that it is optional modes, able only to complete the game 100% and certainly offer a severe challenge to hunters and sweat of Trophies / Goals …

Catwoman, Robin and Nightwing
Just not to miss anything, in the main campaign this time there only in Dark Knight, but during the unfolding of the story will take (via DLC and / or Online Pass) the command of sensual Catwoman.
Selina Kyle has a plan: he wants to penetrate the largest safe Arkham City, and then the super-booty back to Gotham to his heels. Then we will find fragments of the game and riddles reserved for her, pink trophies that Batman can not take and, to complete the whole game 100%, the two will “collaborate”. Moreover, the character of Catwoman brings a slightly modified gameplay: for example, climbing differ from those that make Batman grappling with as the sexy Selina, once launched the much shorter whip will scale up “by hand” walls and scaffolding, with the player who will R1/RB presses in time with the indicator if you want to continue with a quick ascent.
However, those who are already thinking “and if I do not have the Online Pass, do not even see it?” Can rest assured if you do not pass or not acquistere the DLC, Catwoman will still do its part in the storyline of Arkham City, even if you can not play just moments dedicated to her and … Yeah, you can not get 100% of the game.
But Catwoman is not the only playable guest star: Robin aka Tim Drake, makes its appearance during the main plot and hitting the store soon as DLC but, like its predecessor, Nightwing, aka Dick Grayson aka The first Robin (formerly disponbile online for download), can only be used in the challenges (“Revenge Riddler”, ed) in which, like Catwoman and Batman, we collect the aforementioned 192 medals (with each character!) …

Raining Easter eggs!
We’re not mad with this subheading, but we refer to the amount of industrial easter eggs thought to be those guys Rocksteady for Arkham City.
The Easter Egg for those who do not speak the lingo gaming, are those elements of various types (graphics, sound, video, etc..) That are hidden from developers and are, by definition, homages to other games, movies, comics or whatever ’other act to fuel the passions of fans. And Rocksteady has included many, but very many, in this Arkham City, so that their still indefinite totality can even be seen as a further research challenge!
Right now we do not know if anyone has already found them all, but many are sifting through the campaign and the entire city, currently the most watched on YouTube is unlockable in the room of Joker after the final main story … But certainly did not say what it is, otherwise what would Easter Egg?
